At least with majority rules... It's the right of the individual to speak against the majority of the congregation and not suffer retribution for it. The majority of my Church expelled it's abolitionist preacher back in the 1850s for advocating a war of liberation for African Americans. We tell his story to this day as an example of the <em>right of conscience</em>. I would think the right of conscience conflicts with Democracy. At least with majority rules…
